Mission
I believe ordinary people deserve to get financially better, brick by brick — not overnight, just steadily, together. A family saving for a child's school fees. Workmates saving for a trip. A wedding that finally happens because ten people decided to make it happen together.
That kind of saving already exists everywhere in Uganda — it just runs on trust, memory, and paper, with no safety net when things go wrong. The formal alternative — SACCOs, banks — asks for LC letters, registration fees, minimum members, paperwork most people don't have time or standing for.
Ekibiina exists so nobody has to choose between those two. I want it to feel closer to you than even your own savings group — always tracking, always reminding, always fair, never asking for more than the goal itself requires.
Problème
Millions of people already save together informally — weddings, school fees, trips, business capital, emergencies. It works, until it doesn't: someone forgets who paid this month, a treasurer disappears with the pot, a dispute breaks a group that took years to build trust in.
The formal alternative isn't really an alternative for most people. SACCOs and banks demand LC letters, registration fees, minimum group sizes, and paperwork that excludes exactly the people who need saving together the most — two friends, a small family, a handful of workmates with no formal structure and no interest in building one.
The result: a huge, real need with no product built for it. People are stuck between fragile trust-based systems and bureaucratic formal ones, with nothing in between built for how they actually save.
Solution
Ekibiina runs entirely on WhatsApp and mobile money — no app to download, no bank account required, no minimum group size. Two people or twenty, saving for a wedding, a trip, school fees, or anything else, can start in minutes.
Contributions collect automatically through MTN and Airtel mobile money — members approve a payment request with their own PIN, nothing manual, nothing chased down by hand. Reminders go out on schedule. Payouts release automatically once conditions are met, with every member able to see exactly where the group stands at any time.
No LC letters. No registration fees. No paperwork. Just the group, the goal, and a system quietly making sure nobody has to be the one keeping score by memory. Built and live in Kampala, already processing real mobile money transactions for real groups.
